This map displays coal, hydroelectric, and wind power plants. Coal power plants are shown in orange, hydroelectric power plants are shown in blue, and wind power plants are shown in light blue. The size of the circle indicates the total capacity of the power plant from all of its fuel sources, in megawatts.

Use the table of contents in the top right corner of the map to turn the plants powered by each fuel source on and off.

Click a point on the map (where there are no power plants) to see only the power plants within 500 km of that point, along with their total electricity capacity, per fuel source. Once you have zeroed in on an area of interest, click a specific power plant to see its name, capacity per fuel source, and distance from the point you clicked, in km.

Data is filtered from a set of 6,900 electricity generating power plants across the US, obtained from the EIA's form 923.
